Candor Candor by Pam Bachorz

Candor: Frankness, sincerity, openness.

I was kind of surprised that Oscar was such a jerk. There is no reason for my surprise other then I usually read books where I like the main character. He is a well written character. He’s smug with his position and you still go with him, because everything else is so frighting. He is our in into a whole community that is completely brainwashed! Programed to his father’s concept of ideal by messages in the music. I actually listened this on audio (Audible.com), which adds a whole other layer of discomfort. If you liked Feed by M.T. Anderson (which is also an experience on audio) then you will probably like this. There is a lot to talk about here. Though it is hard to pose those question here without giving away too much. Why is the town called Candor? What are the ethics of brainwashing? Why does Oscar do what he does? Is he right? Can the self be suppressed forever? How does this community exist without suspicion or interference from the outside world? and on and on.
