Words are strung together in lines, then those lines are stacked are in blocks. Each block is then bound in place by a stark white border that aims to trap the mind on the page. But, every once in a while a word or phrase strike the mind like flint creating a spark that jumps the margins and burns bright for a second before some manner banged into us forces the mind back inside the borders to pick up the beat and continue marching down the lines of text. That spark (a thought, idea, image, argument, etc.) burns out before we have time to examine it. So go armed with pen, paper, and maybe a dictionary at the very least. Write down the impetuous for the spark and hope the mind will flare twice.  To what end we can only imagine…

  2. Beautiful, Anna Marie.

I hope you’re capturing it all somewhere… the commonplace book, diary, journal.

    • I have a common place book that I used to keep up religiously, an am now trying to get back to by collecting all the scraps of paper I’ve been using instead.
